Borderland

Fall begins to sleep, while winter bears down on the landscape. While the maples enter twig season, the oaks, hickories, and other trees defy the onset of winter, with the leaves hanging on and richness of browns set fire to the landscape. On Saturday, November 3rd, work brought me to Central Massachusetts and Mass Audubon’s Wachusett Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary and this wonderful vista. Sheep seemed all bundled up for the winter as a light mist fell over the meadow and valley. Stopping while my shoes became soaked, I wondered how cozy the sheep must be under their wool coats…
